Sustainability

A number of sustainability measures have been implemented at the Inis Cealtra Visitor Experince to protect the natural environment, enhance biodiversity, and promote responsible resource management.

Key practices include:

  • Pesticide-Free Landscaping: The landscaped garden contains multiple edible plant species. As a result, the use of pesticides is prohibited to protect both plant health and environmental quality.
  • Wildflower Meadow: The wildflower meadow provides essential habitat for pollinators and contributes to overall ecological resilience.
  • Electric Vehicle Infrastructure: Two electric vehicle charging points have been installed onsite, encouraging the use of lower-emission transport options.
  • Wastewater Treatment System: A modern system is in place to treat all wastewater before it enters the main sewage network, thereby reducing environmental impact.
  • Petrol Interceptor: A petrol interceptor has been installed to prevent pollutants from entering local water systems, enhancing environmental protection measures.
  • Energy-Efficient Heating: A heat pump has been installed to improve energy efficiency and reduce reliance on fossil fuel-based heating systems.
  • Use of Original Materials: During recent refurbishment works, original materials such as slates, brick, and flooring were reused wherever possible, preserving the site’s historic character and minimising waste.
