Enjoy a boat trip to Inis Cealtra with local guide

Your adventure begins with a 20-minute scenic boat transfer from Mountshannon Harbour. As you cross the waters of Lough Derg, Ger will regale you with fascinating stories and legends of Inis Cealtra and the surrounding areas, providing a rich historical context for your visit.

Upon arrival, you will have the opportunity to enjoy a self-guided tour of this ancient island. Immerse yourself in its tranquility and explore its historical treasures at your own pace before enjoying a comfortable transfer back to Mountshannon.

Total experience time (boat transfer and island exploration): Approximately 1 hour 30 minutes.

Before or after your boat trip, be sure to allow 30-45 minutes to explore the Inis Cealtra Visitor Experience.

Check In and Times

Boat Trips to Inis Cealtra operate every Saturday and Sunday until October 26th at the following times:

10am | 12pm | 2pm

Please check in at the reception desk at the Inis Cealtra Visitor Experience 15 minutes prior to departure time to validate your ticket.

The visitor centre closes promptly at 4pm. To ensure you don't miss out, we advise exploring the exhibition prior to your boat trip. Please set aside 30-45 minutes for your visit.

Planning your Island Trip

Essential Information

To ensure a smooth and enjoyable trip to Inis Cealtra, please keep the following in mind:

  • Boat trips are weather-dependent and may be cancelled last-minute. If your pre-booked trip is cancelled, you will be entitled to a refund by calling our central reservations office at 061 711222 or emailing iniscealtra@claretourismdev.ie.

  • Space is limited to 11 passengers per boat, therefore we strongly recommend booking your ticket in advance to avoid disappointment. You can book at the Inis Cealtra Visitor Experience reception or online by clicking on the BOOK NOW button below.

  • For your safety, all passengers must wear a supplied life jacket while on board.

  • There are no toilets or dining facilities on Inis Cealtra.

  • We adhere to the "Leave No Trace" principle. Please take all your rubbish and belongings with you when you leave the island.

  • The island is quite exposed, so please ensure you pack rain gear, hats and sunscreen ahead of your visit

  • Boat trips will not operate during funerals on the island. If you have a booking affected by this, you will be notified once we receive notice.
